Lorraine Folb

Lorraine Folb Image

Lorraine is strongly influenced by her upbringing and early experiences in Africa. She has long identified with the warm tones and colours of Africa. Lorraine values the freedom of expression that is so basic to her background and she brings to her work a strong sense of culture and warmth. Since immigrating to Australia, she has travelled widely, absorbing the drama of the outback, the sheer beauty of the coastal areas and the strength of community in the cities.

Lorraine spent two years in San Francisco during which she gained a deep appreciation of the contemporary styles of the West Coast. This has become integrated into her repertoire adding a unique global quality.

Her intuitive style has incorporated all these elements. She is fascinated with unconventional materials and this compliments the warm and earthy tones that are evident in her work.

Lorraine's need for self expression is a fundamental part of her life experience. She believes it is empowering and allows her to navigate through the unknown. Experimentation is necessary to produce exciting and interesting art - she prefers this to preconceived ideas, which she finds restricting.

Expressing herself through her art gives her a great sense of satisfaction.

Lorraine’s aspires to achieving a high level of integrity in the expression of her individual work.
