‘Lichtung’ is the light clearing that appears in a dark forest. It is a metaphor used by Heideggar for existence, whereby the possibility of perceiving and attaching meaning to our existence is due to its ‘character of having been laid open,’ the world’s capacity to open up and disclose itself to itself. Painting is an implement that gives acknowledgement to obscured parts of being that are shadowed by non awareness, refracting theses parts into ‘beings’ in and of themselves, entities that dwell in a ‘system of meaningful relations’. These paintings document an inquiry into the subtle realms of mind and heart.
